Kevät edistyi tämän viikon aikana huiman harppauksen. Alkuviikon pystyi hyvin hiihtämään, vaikka lämpötila oli aamulla jo useita asteita plussalla. Loppuviikon lähes 20 asteen lämpötila vei sitten hiihtokelit hetkessä, kun suot alkoivat tulvia. Metsäänkin pääsi kävellen.
Tapasin maanantaina poromiehen aidan korjauspuuhissa. Hän kertoi kanalintuja olevan nyt poikkeuksellisen runsaasti - riekkoja, pyitä, metsoja ja jopa teeriä, joita ei ole näkynyt yli kymmeneen vuoteen. Liikkuvat jopa 50:n parvissa. Kehotti etsimään lintuja auringon nousun aikoihin ja sehän tarkoittaa, että ennen viittä pitäisi olla maastossa. Kuulemma ihan maantieltä voi niitä nähdä.
Neuvo piti hyvin paikkansa. Näin ainakin kuusi metsoa ja riekkoja. Pyyt ja teeret pysyivät piilossa. Vesilintuja ja kahlaajia oli hyvin Kutunivalla, josta Jerisjärven vedet laskevat Jerisjokeen. Jääpeite väistyi päivä päivältä ja lintuja tuli koko ajan lisää. Telkkiä oli paljon ja niiden soidinmenoissa vesi pärskyi. Muut linnut olivat: Uivelopariskunta, kaksi jouhisorsaparia, kaksi valkovikloparia ja yksinäinen sirri, jonka luokittelin pikkusirriksi. Laulujoutsenten ääniä kuului, mutta lintuja en nähnyt.
Pallakselle menevän polun varressa ihmettelin kaadettuja tukkeja. En voinut käsittää metsätöiden tekemistä kansallispuiston alueella. Täytyy kysyä asiaa puiston hallinnosta.
Merkillisen kokemuksen toivat saksalaisen autotehtaan testirymät. Aamu kuudelta he alkoivat päivän ohjelman, jossa autoja koeajettiin kaupunkiruuhkan oloissa! Ruuhka tuli ruuhka-ajosimulaattorista, jonka mukaan letka Mercedeksiä eteni pienellä nopeudella vähän väliä pysähdellen. Tätä jatkui koko päivän. Olivat tehneet sitä kuulemma koko talven. Autioon aamu-usvaiseen tunturimaisemaan se toi epätodellisen, kafkamaisen ja koomisen tunnelman.

The spring progressed during this week, in huge strides. Beginning of the week it was well able to ski, even though temperature was in the morning already several degrees on plus. Almost 20 degrees in the end of the week made then skiing impossible when marshes started to overflow.
I met on Monday the reindeer man in repair activities of the fence. He told that there were exceptionally plenty of fowls - willow grouses, hazel grouses, wood grouses and even black grouses which have not been seen for over ten year. They moved even in 50:n swarms. He urged to search for birds by sunrise. That means that I should be before five in the forest.
The advice held well its place. I saw wood grouses and willow grouses at least six pieces. Hazel-grouse and black grouse continued to be hidden. Waterfowls and waders were well in the unfrozen place where the water of lake Jeris goes to Jeris-river. Ice cover avoided day by day and birds came all the time more. The goldeneyes there were plenty and water snorted in their displays. Other birds were: smew couple, two northern pintail couples, two common greenshanks and a lonely little stint. I heard the tones of the song swan, but the birds I didn't see.
Remarkable experience brought the test people of a German car factory. In the morning at six they started day program, in which cars were tested in the conditions of the town rush! The rush came from the rush driving simulator, according to whom a row Mercedes cars progressed on the low speed stopping all the time. This continued all day long. They had made that all the winter I heard. To the deserted morning foggy mountain landscape it brought unreal Kafka-like and comical feeling.
