Teimme matkan molempiin suuntiin ajamalla, koska halusimme kokeilla uutta diesel-autoamme matka-ajossa. Polttoaineen kulutus (5,5 l / 100 km) oli odotuksen mukainen. Kun nykyautossa tietokone ja vakionopeuden säädin huolehtivat tasaisesta matkavauhdista ja sadetunnistimin varustetut lasinpyyhkimet näkyvyydestä, ei kuskille jää muuta ongelmaa kuin hereillä pysyminen. Siinä puhekumppani vieressä on hyvä apu.

Menomatkalla yövyimme Kemissä pieteetillä 50-luvun henkeen kunnostetussa Merihovissa. Aamulla vierailimme Kemin lumilinnassa. Tällä kertaa se oli taas miellyttävä kokemus. Kemiläispäättäjät ovat kyllä tyhmiä, jos lopettavat lumilinnaperinteensä.

Viikko oli sään puolesta aika poikkeuksellinen. Enimmäkseen oli kauniin aurinkoista. Aamulla oli pikkupakkasta mutta iltapäivällä lämpötila oli siinä +5 - +10 astetta, joten voitelu vaatii taitoa ja kokemusta. Sitä löytyi universal-liisteristä, jota käytimme viikossa kokonaisen tuubin. Enimmäkseen se toimi toivotulla tavalla. Nella kyllä haikaili pitoteipistä, mutta kokeilematta se jäi.

Lapponia-hiihtäjiä katsellessani muistelin omaa osallistumistani siihen runsas kymmenen vuotta sitten. Hiihdin yhden osuuden koko 60 km maaliin asti, enkä ollut tulosluettelossa ihan viimeinen. Ainakin yhden saksalaisen taisin voittaa.

Tiistaille säätiedotus lupaili vesi- ja lumisadetta. Me päätimme käydä silloin Norjan puolella Altassa. Se oli oikein onnistunut matka. Merellä oli paljon haahkoja ja alleja. Rannassa kuvasin meriharakoiden kummallista soidintanssia liuskekivillä.

Ruokapaikaksi löytämämme Vica-hotelli oli onnistunut valinta. Nella tykkäsi kovasti tilaamastaan valaspihvistä ja minulle maistui savustettu turska rasvaisen pekonin kera.

Takaisin palatessamme totesimme säätiedotuksen pitäneen paikkansa. Lunta oli täällä tullut päivän aikana runsaasti vaikka jäämeren rannalla vallitsi aurinkoinen kevätsää.

We did this journey by driving to both directions. We wanted to try our new diesel-car in journey-driving. Consumption of the fuel (5.5 l / 100 km) was in accordance with the expectation. When in the car of today computer and the regulator of the constant speed takes care of the even journey speed and automatic screen wipers from the visibility, the driver has not other problem as remaining awake. There alongside the speech companion is good assistance.

We stayed overnight in Kemi in old Merihovi hotel which had renovated to 50s style. In the morning we visited in the snow castle of Kemi. This time it was again pleasing experience.

The week was on behalf of weather exceptional. Mostly it was beautiful sunny. In the morning was little frost but in the afternoon temperature was there +5 - +10 degrees So the ski vaxing demanded skill and experience. It was found from universal-paste, which we used in week the whole tube. Mostly it functioned well. Nella however daydreamed from the new innovation in ski waxing - the grip tape, but without trying it stayed.

When I was watching this year Lapponia-skiers I recalled my own participation there more than ten years ago. I then skied all the 60 km and I was not in the results quite the last. I won one German skier!

For Tuesday weather report promised water and snowfall. We decided to make one day trip to Alta in Norway. It was nice journey. In the arctic sea we saw many eiders and long-tailed ducks. On the shore I photographed oystercatchers curious display dance on slates.

For the eating we found nice lunch in Vica hotel. Nella liked much her whale beefsteak and to me tasted smoked cod with the greasy bacon.

When returning back we found that the weather report had held true. There was come plenty of snow during the day of even though by the shore of the arctic sea prevailed sunny spring weather.
