Etelässä ei lunta ollut, mutta täällä hiihtokeli oli vallan mainio. Lämpötila vaihteli viikon aikana yhden ja viidentoista pakkasasteen välillä. Melkein jokaisena päivä satoi lunta. Pilvet riippuivat matalalla koko viikon ja päivät olivat lyhyt hämärähetki keskipäivän molemmin puolin.

Bussikuski kertoi tullessa auringon jo Muoniossa nousevan, mutta pilvien taakse se jäi koko viikoksi. Yhtenä päivänä kiipesin Sammaltunturille ja sain hiihtää siellä ihan pilvessä. Näkyvyyttä ei paljoa ollut.

Ladut olivat hyvässä kunnossa. Taputtelin ladun varren vanhoja puita jälleen näkemisen ilosta ja toivotin hyvät uudet vuodet. Kaikki puuvanhukset vastasivat minulle taigametsän ikuisella, hiljaisella arvokkuudella.

Latu menee täällä Jerisjärven yli, jos haluaa Muonioon päin hiihtää. Järvi oli tietenkin jäässä, mutta ei jää ole vielä tarpeeksi paksua latukoneelle. Tuuli oli kuitenkin vienyt suurimmat irtolumet mennessään. Siksi hiihtäminen sujui ilman latuakin ja varsinkin myötätuuleen.

Torassiepissä otin lapinpukuisesta nuoresta neidosta valokuvia. Hän oli turismipalvelun harjoittelutehtävissä ja kotoisin Prahasta. Oli oppinut Tsekin tyttö hyvin suomea.

There is no snow in the south, but here skiing conditions were excellent. The temperature changed during the week between one and fifteen frost degrees. Almost every day it was snowing. The clouds were thick and low all week and days were only short twilight period at noontime.

Bus driver told when coming that sun already rises on Muonio level, but behind the clouds it stayed all week. One day I climbed to Sammaltunturi and I got to ski there quite in clouds. There was not much visibility.

The tracks were in good condition. I wished seasons greetings to all old trees by the track. All woods answered to me with everlasting quiet dignity typical for forest on taiga region.

The track goes here over Jeris Lake if you want to ski towards to Muonio. The lake was naturally in the ice, but the ice is not yet enough thick for track machine. However, wind had taken most snow away. That's why skiing progressed also without the track and especially downwind.

In Torassieppi I took photos from Lapland dressed young maid. She was there practicing tourist services and born from Praha. She had learnt very well Finnish.
