13 - 19.3. 2010 KEVÄTTALVEN AURINGOSSA

Oli taas hieno keväinen hiihtoviikko, aurinkoista koko viikon ja lämpötila päivällä kymmenen pakkasasteen tienoilla. Yöllä sen sijaan oli keväiseen tapaan hyvin kylmää. Pakkasta jopa 30 astetta. Nopeasti aamun aurinko kuitenkin lämpötilaa nosti.

Tyttären lapseni Pihla 10v. ja Inka 9v. tekivät meille hauskaa seuraa. Tytöt ovat todella pontevia hiihtäjiä. Montellin majallekin korkealla Pallaksella kiipeäminen meni leikiten ja reilun kolmen kilometrin laskun sieltä tytöt muistavat varmasti pitkään. Muutkin pitkät vauhdikkaat alamäet kuten lasku Sammaltunturilta, olivat kovasti tyttöjen mieleen. Luistava keli, aurinkoinen sää ja hyvät ladut. Mitä muuta hiihtoa harrastava kansalainen voisi enää toivoa!

Hiihtäjiä ei ollut kuitenkaan kovin paljoa. Ehkä Etelä-Suomen hyvä lumitilanne vaikuttaa. Tai onko niin, kuin naapurimökin kahdeksaa kymppiä lähestyvä itävaltalainen retkeilijähirmu Herwig arveli, että nykyihminen ei hiihtäen metsään mene. Talvella menopeli on moottorikelkka, kesällä mönkijä. Herwig kertoi Pallashotellin lähellä moottorikelkkojen sotkeneen pahasti hiihtolatuja. Hirvittää, mitä uusi hotellihanke tuokaan tullessaan.

Siinä Herwig on varmasti oikeassa, ettei täällä näin kaukana pohjoisessa maastohiihto tule olemaan koskaan suurten kansanjoukkojen harrastus. Jos tai ilmeisesti kun Pallakselle uusi hotelli rakennetaan, tulevat sen käyttäjät ilman muuta liikkumaan enimmäkseen moottoroiduilla kulkuneuvoilla. Niiden nykyinen käyttökielto kansallispuistossa vain hiljaa ja huomaamatta säännöistä katoaa.

Kaukana kavalassa maailmassa tunnutaan kohellettavan ihan päättömästi. Kansanedustajat kinaavat tosissaan jostain parin sadan euron yle-maksusta. Itse kukin hakee irtopisteitä ensi vuoden vaaleja varten. Surkeaa katsottavaa. Satamien ahtaajat vaativat turvaa ja varmuutta työsuhteisiinsa. Niin kuin jotain sellaista olisi saatavissa, saati edes olemassa. Sääliksi käy päättäjiä, jotka taloutta yrittävät vakauttaa. Jos ei hirmuista nousukautta tule, niin saavutettuja etuja täytyy rumasti leikata ja veroja nostaa. Siitä ei kiitoksen sanoja heru.

13 - 19. 3. 2010 IN THE SUN OF THE LATE WINTER

It was again a fine spring skiing week, sunny for the whole week and the temperature in the daytime around ten degrees. Instead at night it was very cold in a spring way. Frost there was as much as 30 degrees. However, the sun of the morning raised the temperature fast.

My daughter's children Pihla 10y and Inka 9y made a funny company to us. The girls are really energetic skiers. Also the climbing to the Montell hut high on Pallas mountain went easily and the girls surely remember the down hill of over three kilometres from there for a long time. Other long speedy downward slopes also as down hill from Sammaltunturi were at the girls' mind hard. Sunny weather and good tracks. What else could the citizen who takes an interest in skiing hope still!

However, there were not very much skiers. Perhaps the good snow situation of southern Finland has effect. Or is it so like our Austrian neighbour Herwig that approaches that the modern man does not much go skiing into the forest. In the winter the going game will be a snowmobile, in the summer the all-terrain vehicle. Herwig told that the snowmobiles had messed up ski tracks badly near Pallas-hotell. It frightens either what the new hotel project brings.

In it Herwig is surely correct that the cross-country skiing will be never the hobby of big crowds here this far in the north. When if, obviously the new hotel is built on Pallas its users will travel by motorised vehicles mostly of course. Quietly without noticing their present prohibition of operation on the national park disappears from the rules.

Far in the treacherous world it seems to be disputed quite heedlessly. The Members of Parliament quarrel in earnest over small broadcast payment. Each one searches himself merit for the election of the next year. Wretched to be looked. The stevedores of harbours demand the protection and the certainty to their employments. As something like that would be available let alone to be at least. Decision-makers trying to stabilise the economy go to be a pity. If an awful boom does not come, so gained benefits must be cut and the taxes must be raised. Words of the thanks do not trickle from it.
