11.-18.2. 2011 - MASOKISTIN HIIHTOKELIT

Koko tämän viikon oli tavattoman kylmää. Jokaisena yönä oli pakkasta enemmän kuin 30 astetta. Tällaista säätä ei ole ollut vielä kertaakaan tällä oleskelumme kymmenen vuoden aikana. Iltapäivisin aurinko kuitenkin lämmitti sen verran, että lämpötila nousi 5-8 astetta ja siinä pystyi juuri ja juuri hiihtämään. Pientä masokismia lähteminen vaati, mutta kun nousimme ylemmäksi tunturiin, niin lämpötila nousi edelleen. Oli ihan siedettävät 20-25 pakkasastetta. Niinpä hiihdimme jokaisena päivänä ainakin kymmenen kilometrin lenkin. Ylempänä tunturissa luistokin oli kohtuullinen verrattuna järvenpinnan santapaperikeliin.

Mukanamme oli kaksi pelkäämätöntä virolaisnaista, Meerike ja Agnessa. He kokivatkin kerralla koko lappilaisen ekstreemin ja olivat kokemuksesta oikein onnellisia. He sattuivat näkemään järvellä myös halo-ilmiön.

Tällä vaatetuksella selviää helposti kylmää tuntevakin tässä kelissä: Ihoa vasten hien läpäisevä urheilukerrasto, sen päällä norjalainen Devold-merinovillakerrasto, sitten ylimääräinen välikerrasto, yläkropassa fleece-liivi ja päällimmäisenä vanha sekoitekankainen Lassin vuorellinen anorakki ja sen housut. Käsissä nahkahanskat, joissa villalapaset. Päässä paksu villapipo, jonka alla putkimallinen naisten monitoimimyssy.

Auton puolesta sai jännittää, toimiiko se, vaikka visusti olen koko talven tankannut talvilaatuista dieseliä. Nyt sillekin luvatut pakkasrajat ylitettiin. Polttoaine kuitenkin toimi mutta akku tuotti ongelman. Muutamana päivänä se käynnisti auton ihan helposti, mutta sitten parin pakkasyön jälkeen sen puhti katosi tyystin. Taas tuli asiaa Autopalvelu Sadinmaalle Muoniossa. Ensin hinausauto kävi antamassa lisävirtaa käynnistykseen ja sitten korjaamolla asentaja vaihtoi akun uuteen. Eikä koko operaatioon mennyt kuin pari tuntia. Kyllä Lapissa palvelu pelaa viimeisen päälle! Rahaa nyt tietysti paloi taas muutaman sata euroa.

11 -18th February, 2011 - THE MASOCHIST'S SKIING CONDITIONS

It was extremely cold for this whole week. There was more than a 30 degrees frost on every night. There has never been this kind of weather in our stay here yet during ten years. In the afternoons the sun, however, warmed so much that the temperature rose 5-8 degrees and in it was just able to ski. The going required small masochism but so the temperature still rose, when we rose higher to the fjeld. There it was minus 20-25 frost. So we skied every day at least ten kilometres.

With us there were two fearless Estonians, Meerike and Agnessa. They really experienced a Lappish extreme and they were quite happy from the experience. They happened to see a split phenomenon also at the lake.

With this clothing everybody gets easily in this weather: Against skin sports set of underwear which pierces the sweat, over it Norwegian Devold Merino wool set, then extra space set of underwear, in upper body fleece waistcoat and topmost old thick anorak and its trousers. In hands leather gloves, in which woollen mittens. In head thick woollen cap.

For the car I stretched, if it operates even though I have carefully refuelled winter kind diesel for the whole winter. The frost limit for that was however the whole week exceeded. Fuel however worked but the battery produced the problem. A few days it started the car quite easily but then its energy disappeared completely after a couple of cold nights. So I again had to ask help from to car service Sadinmaa in Muonio. First the breakdown truck went to give the additional current to the start and then the mechanic changed the battery in the repair workshop for a new one. And not gone to the whole operation like a couple of hours. Yes, the service plays in Lapland over the last! The money, of course, now again burnt a few a hundred euro.
