14. - 20.1.2012 - KYMMENEN JERISVUOTTA TÄYNNÄ

Vuoden alussa alkoi yhdestoista vuosi Jeris-mökimme historiassa. Kymmenen vuoden aikana olemme hiihtäneen ja retkeilleet näissä maisemissa 71 viikon ajan eli viettäneet täällä yhteensä pitkälti toista vuotta. Paljoa ei ole luonnossa mikään tänä aikana muuttunut. Samat lenkit hiihdetään ja kävellään - kymmenen vuotta kokeneempina! Kansallispuiston ikimetsät antavat retkeilylle komeat puitteet. Maisemat ovat muuttumattomia. Joskus on selkeää ja talviaikaan pääsee ihailemaan kaamoksen valoja, mutta usein on myös pilvistä, kuten tälläkin viikolla. Ajoittain pilvet laskeutuivat järven pinnalle asti. Valokuvaamisesta ei silloin tule oikein mitään.

Hyviä hiihtokelejä kestää täällä neljä-viisi kuukautta joulukuusta huhtikuulle. Silloin suurin osa turisteista täällä vierailee, mutta vähäisintäkään tungosta ei hiihtoladuilla ole koskaan ollut. Pikemminkin hiihtäjiä on todella vähän. Ladut ovat hyvin hoidettuja ja osittain valaistuja. Pakkaset ovat yleensä maltillisia. Tämän viikon 5-20 astetta on aika tavanomainen talvikeli. Olosuhteet ovat maastohiihdon kannalta ihanteelliset.

Kun hiihtokausi päättyy, poistuvat myös turistit. Kylläkin ihan suotta. Vaikka latujen hoito loppuu huhtikuussa, jatkuu talvi vielä tovin ja toukokuussa on mainiot hankikelit. Metsäsukilla tai lumikengillä voi liikkua vaivattomasti pitkiä matkoja, kunhan osaa pysytellä kartalla. Lumiset jängät ovat kovin samannäköisiä ympäriinsä ja suunnassa voi helposti harhautua. Lintumaailma on touko-kesäkuussa tavattoman runsas. Metsät ovat yhtä lintujen konserttia.

Kesäaika yöttömine ja valoisine öineen on aivan ainutlaatuinen. Olosuhteet ovat metsä- ja tunturiretkeilyn kannalta todella mahtavat. Matkailijoita liikkuu mutta aika vähän. Pelännevätkö hyttysiä? Se on turhaa, silla kertaakaan kymmenen vuoden aikana ei hyttysistä ole ollut mitään haittaa. Monen kesänä hyttysiä on ollut tuskin enempää kuin etelässä.

Syksyä riittää lokakuun puolelle. Ruskan värit vaihtelevat, mutta ovat aina käymisen arvoisia. Ensilumi tulee tavallisesti lokakuussa, mutta hiihtämiseen asti ei lunta ole useinkaan ennen joulukuuta.

Vaikka luonto ja miljöö vaikuttavat muuttumattomilta, voi hidasta lämpenemistä ehkä tapahtua. Yksi merkki tästä ovat laulujoutsenet. Pieni osa niistä ei lähde lainkaan muuttomatkalle. Nytkin keskellä tammikuuta näimme seitsemän joutsenen perheen ruokailemassa Kutunivalla. Siinä pitää voimakas virta kovallakin pakkasella kymmeniä aareja matalaa järveä sulana. Tiira.fi:stä totesin tällä viikolla joutsenhavainnot myös Inarista ja Kuusamosta. Pienelle joukolle joutsenia näkyy nykyään löytyvän riittävästi sulapaikkoja ravinnon etsimiseen ankaran arktisesta pohjoisen luonnostakin!

14th - 20th, January 2012 - ALLREADY TEN YEARS AT JERIS!

At the beginning of the year began in our Jeris-hut history the eleventh year. During ten years we have skied and hiked in these landscapes for 71 weeks, in other words altogether more here than a year. Nothing much has changed in the nature during this time. The same routes it is skied or walked except we are ten years more experienced! The old forests of the national park give a handsome setting to the hiking. The landscapes are unchanged. Sometimes the sky is clear and in the winter time it is able to admire the oaths of the darkness but often it also is cloudy as also this week. At times the clouds descended to the surface of the lake. The photographing then becomes nothing right.

The good skiing conditions extend here five months from December to April. Then the majority of the tourists visit here but there has been never even the most minor crowd on the ski tracks. There are rather really few skiers. The tracks are taken well care of and partly they are enlighted. The frosts are usually moderate. This weeks 5 -20 degrees is a quite typical winter weather. The conditions are ideal from the point of view of the cross-country skiing.

When a skiing season ends, tourists also will disappear. Yes quite in vain. Even though the care of tracks will run out in April, winter continues still for a short while and in May it will often be excellent snow weathers. Then can easily be moved with forest skis or with the snow-rackets long trips if you are able to orientate on the map. The snowy forests are very similar around and in the direction one can stray easily. The bird world will be extremely abundant in May-June. The forests are the birds' one concert.

Summer time with its everlasting light nights is quite unique. The conditions are really powerful from the point of view of forest hiking and fjeld hiking. But quite few tourists move here. Are they probably afraid of mosquitoes? It is unnecessary because never during ten years there has been any drawback from the mosquitoes. In many summers there have been hardly more mosquitoes than in the south.

There fall extend to the half of October. The colors of the autumn foliage vary but are always the going's worth. The first snow will come usually in October but there will be often no snow up to the skiing before December.

Even though the nature and the milieu seem unchanged, the slow warming can perhaps take place. One sign of this is whooper swans. A small part of them does not leave at all for the south trip. Also now we saw seven swans in the middle of January eating in Kutuniva. In it the strong current keeps large area unfrozen also on the high frost. For a small group of swans there is nowadays enough nourishment in small unfrozen waters also on the very arctic nature!
