Lubans-järvi 25.-27.4. 2011

Tämä järvi on Itä-Latviassa. Järvi on luonnonkaunis Natura-suojelukohde. Sää suosi meitä, sillä viileä kevät muuttui täällä melkein kesäkeliksi. Lämmintä oli yli 20 astetta.

Lubansin rannoilla ja lähitienoilla on ollut neuvostoaikana kalankasvattamoja. Niiden altaat ovat joko umpeen kasvaneita tai paikoin avoimen lietteisiä. Kala-altaiden välissä kulkevat edelleen vanhat huoltotiet. Pyörällä tai kävellen niillä on helppo liikkua, mutta osaan huoltoteistä on myös autolla ajokunnossa. Alue on tavattoman laaja.

Lubans on uuvuttavan ja ikävän soratien päässä. Tie on täysin hoitamaton täynnä isoja irtokiviä ja loputonta tiemestarin tyttären kiharaa. Siellä pitää ajaa joko hiljaa tai niin kovaa, etteivät renkaat hakeudu joka ikiseen kuoppaan.

Saimme majapaikaksi suojelualueen opastuskeskuksen, kaksikerroksisien hirsitalon. (Web: infolubans@inbox.lv , puh.: Ina Gut?ne +371 29234956) Majapaikkana se oli muuten aivan mainio, mutta hiekkatien vieressä autot hukuttivat sen aina ohi ajaessaan sankkaan pölyyn. Onneksi liikennettä oli vähän. Majapaikkaa voi suositella senkin takia, että turisteilta saatavat majoitustulot ovat Natura-alueen ainoa tulovirta. Kunnalta tai valtiolta ei nykyään tule mitään avustusta.

Järven rantaan avataan keväällä uusi turistien palvelukeskus. Toivoa sopii, että sen myötä myös tie saa jonkinlaisen kestopäällysteen. Järven eri puolilla on lintutorneja, mutta ne ovat huonokuntoisia ja osa suljettuja. Ehkä nekin kunnostetaan, jos turisteja saapuu.

Lähitienoot ovat kauniit ja lintuja on kohtalaisesti, mutta ne oleilevat enimmäkseen sankan ruovikon seassa. Ihmiset ovat mukavia ja juttelevat mielellään, kunhan vain osaa latviaa tai venäjää. Latvialaisilla on mukava humoristinen mielenlaatu. He nauravat elämän puutteille, valtaa pitävien korruptiolle ja EU:n typerille hankkeille. Tällä sinisorsille oli eu:n tuella rakennettu järveen pesimäuuttuja. Kuulemma yksikään ei ollut käytössä ja miksi ihmeessä sinisorsille, kummastelivat rannan asukkaat.

Opastuskeskuksen vartija kertoi olevansa myös ammattikalastaja. Kun kysyimme tuoretta kalaa, nosti hän sumpun järvestä ja ojensi siitä meille ämpärillisen kaloja. Maksua ei suostunut ottamaan. Pitäähän vieraita palvella. Ennen sitä hän kertoili pitkät tarinat sotilasurastaan neuvostovakoojana. Pahoittelin silloin oppimansa englannin unohtamista.

Lake Lubans 25.-27.April 2011

This lake is in East Latvia. The lake is a scenic Natura-protected object. The weather favoured us because cool spring almost became summer weather here. It was warm more than 20 degrees.

In Lubans there have been ponds to grow fish during in soviets time. The basins are nowadays grown or in places open sludge. Between the fish ponds go still the old maintenance roads. Walking or bicycling is easy and some of the maintenance roads are in with car driving order. The area is very wide.

Lubans is at the end of an exhausting and unpleasant gravel road. The road is totally to unkempt full of big pebbles. There one must drive either quietly or so fast that the wheels do not seek their way to each hole.

We got the guidance centre of the protectorate, a timber house of the two storeys as lodging. (Web: infolubans@inbox.lv , tel.: Ina Gut?ne +371 29234956) It was quite excellent otherwise but next to the sand road the cars always drowned it when driving past to the thick dust. Fortunately there was little traffic. The lodging one can recommend also because of the fact that the accommodation income which is obtained from the tourists is the only finance to the Natura-protected area. From a municipality or state will come nowadays no assistance.

In the shore of the lake a new tourists' service centre will be opened in the spring. We may hope that with it the road also gets some kind of coating. There are bird towers on different sides of the lake but they are part as deteriorated closed. Perhaps they also will be repaired if the tourists arrive.

The landscape is beautiful and the birds there are moderately but they stay among cane-grass, which is mostly thick. The people are nice and chat willingly if you can Latvian or Russian. The Latvians have a comfortable humorous people. They laugh to the troubles of the life, to corruption of the civil servants and to the foolish EU projects. With this had been built artificial nests into the lake to the mallards on the support of eu. No one was in use and why on earth to the mallards, the inhabitants of the shore wondered.

The guard of the guidance centre told that he was a professional fisher also. When we asked for the fresh fish, he raised the fish chest from the lake and handed six fish from it to us. The payment he did not agree to take. Guests must be served. Before it he told the long stories about his military career as a council spy. He felt sorry for the forgetting of the English learned by those times.
