Pärnun lahti 19. - 20. 4. 2011

Teimme 19.4 - 28.4. varhaiskeväisen luontoretken Viroon ja Latviaan. Reitti oli pääpiirteissään: Pärnun lahti (EST) - Kolkan niemi (LV) - Lubans-järvi (LV) - Peipsijärvi (EST)

Lähtö Tallinkilla oli klo 07.30. Olimme varanneet yöpymisen Pärnun eteläpuolelta Võistesta Tahkurannan kylässä olevasta Abaja Talusta. Päätimme ajaa Lihulan kautta ja katsastaa mennessä Lounais-Viron ja Pärnun lahden lintupaikat. Oppaana käytimme Margus Otsin ja Uku Paalin tekemää "Eesti linnuvaatleja teejuht" -kirjaa. Päällisin puolin suomalainen ymmärtää sitä vaivatta ja se on ajantasainen opas koko Viron parhaisiin lintupaikkoihin.

Paljon ei lintuja näkynyt. Pärnun lahti ja Tõhela-järvet olivat meille yllätyksenä edelleen suurelta osin jäässä. Pärnun lahden rantaniityillä oli tosin paljon metsä- ja tundrahanhia ja Väratin niemen lahdessa kaikki kolme joutsenlajia.

Abaja Talu on aivan meren rannalla hienolla paikalla. Nyt talon edusta oli ahtojäiden peitossa. Aamulla rannassa oli ristisorsapariskunta. Yöllä oli ollut tukevasti pakkasta, sillä auton ikkunat olivat aivan jäässä. Talon emäntä valmisti meille tukevan päivällisen ja aamiaisen. Ruokajuomana tarjottiin koivun mahlaa.

Kun aamulla jatkoimme matkaa, kävimme Häädemeestessä vanhoilla kala-altailla ja Kablin lintuaseman rannassa. Molemmat ovat varmasti hyviä lintupaikkoja, mutta kummallisen vähän lintuja me kohtasimme. Erityisesti kahlaajia ei näkynyt. Vain pari punajalkavikloa näimme kala-altaiden lietteellä.

The Bay of Pärnu 19.- 20. April 2011

We made an early spring trip to Estonia and Latvia in19.4 - 28.4. 2011. The route was basically: Bay of Pärnu (EST) - Cape of Kolka (LV) - Lake Lubans (LV) - Lake Peipsi (EST) .

Start was with Tallink at 07.30 to Tallinn. We had reserved the staying overnight in Abaja Talu, which is south from Pärnu in Võistes Tahkuranna village. We decided to drive via Lihula and to inspect the bird places of the Southwest Estonia and of the bay of Pärnu. As a guide we used the Margus Otsa's and Uku Paali's "Estonia linnuvaatleja teejuht" book. It is in Estonian language but The Finn understands it without trouble and it is a real-time guide to the best bird places of the whole of Estonia.

A lot of birds were not seen. The surprise was further that the bay of Pärnu and Tõhela lakes were mostly still in ice. However, there were all three swan species in Värati bay and many forest geese and tundra geese in the shore meadows of the bay of Pärnu.

Abaja Talu is quite on the shore of the sea on a fine place. Now it was in the covering of pack ices from the advantage of the house. In the shore there was a common shelduck couple in the morning. There had been a frost robustly at night because the windows of the car were quite in ice. The hostess of the house prepared the big dinner and breakfast to us. As food drink was offered the sap of the birch.

When in the morning we continued the trip, we visited the shore of the bird station in Kabli and old fish ponds in Häädemeste. Both are surely good bird places but we met strangely few birds. Especially the waders were not seen. We saw only a couple of common redshank on the sludge of fish ponds.
