6. -13. June 2012 - Birdsafari Nordkapp and Porsanger fjord

6.-9.7 -- Jatkettiin Jerisjärveltä Muoniosta Norjan suuntaan. Altassa yövyimme vuonon rannalla pienessä yhden naisen ja työntekijän pyörittämässä hotellissa, Altafjord Gjestgardissa (http://www.altafjordgs.no/). Sieltä oli komeat näkymät vuonolle ja ravintolan tarjoama turska on hyvin norjalaista. Tämä on hyvä yöpymispaikka.
Aamulla jatkettiin Porsangerin vuonoa kohden. Päätavoite oli osallistua Gjesvaerstappanille suuntautuvalle linturetkelle. Tämä on luonnonsuojelualue Nordkappin luoteiskulmassa ja retki tehdään Gjesvaer’in kylästä, johon suojelualueen kalliosaaret hyvin näkyvät. Porsangin vuonon rannassa onnistuimme kuvaamaan harvinaisia Tiibetin hanhia. Ne ovat tarhakarkulaisia mutta Norjassa elää pieni luonnonvarainen populaatio. Oudon näköisiä hyvin vaaleita hanhia.
Matkat toteuttaa Ola´s Birdsafari (http://www.birdsafari.com/) niminen yritys. Ola itse toimii myös retkilaivan kapteenina. Olalla on myös majoitusta tarjolla. Asuimme askeettisessa mutta asiallisessa rantamökissä. Norjalaiset kutsuvat niitä rorbu´iksi. Emännältä ostettiin ruuaksi iso kimpale Ruijan pallasta. Se oli maittavaa kalaa. Parempaa kuin lohi.
Väkeä retkellä olikin melkoisesti, kymmeniä henkilöitä. Kovin suuria odotuksia meillä ei ollut, mutta retki lintuvuorille olikin sitten valtavan hieno kokemus. Lintuja oli näkyvissä todella paljon, ihan kuin hyttysiä lappilaisella suolla. Merikotkia, lunneja, kiisloja, ruokkeja, suulia, merimetsoja jne. Maihin ei voinut mennä, joten kuvaaminen tehtiin laivasta, joka oli varsin suuri. Siinä oli edessä ja takana avoin tila. Merenkäyntiä oli kohtalaisesti mutta onneksi ei satanut.
Kun kuvattavaa oli koko ajan, niin puolentoistotunnin aikana kuvia kertyi lähes 3000 kappaletta. Tasapainoilu keikkuvassa laivassa kävi täydestä työstä. Lievä merisairauskin iski. Olimmekin laivanmatkan jälkeen kuin melkoisen työpäivän tehneitä ja lopen uupuneita. Onneksi olimme varanneet majoituksen seuraavaksikin yöksi. Tätä tapahtumaa voi suositella kaikille meriluonnosta tykkääville. Tämä elämys on enemmän kuin hintansa arvoinen!
9-13.7 --Ajelimme ensin vuonon länsirantaa etelään Lakselviin. Nähtiin Tiibetin hanhet täsmälleen samassa paikassa kuin tulomatkallakin.
Liikenne on Porsangin vuonon länsirannalla kesäaikaan hyvin vilkasta. Yllättävän moni näyttää haluavan tehdä matkan Nordkappiin myös polkupyörällä! Kapealla vuonon rantaa myötäilevällä vilkasliikenteisellä tiellä se käy urheilusta kaikin puolin.
Tarkoituksenamme oli tutkia myös vuonon itärantaa. Siellä oli paljon vähemmän kulkijoita. Maisemat olivat jollakin tavalla länsirantaa laakeampia mutta hyvin karuja. Tiekin on paikoin vaivainen kärrypolku. Yövyimme vuonon rannalla kalastajien käyttämässä turvekattoisessa majassa. Se oli kauniilla paikalla mutta miesten jäljiltä siivottomassa kunnossa.
Jatkoimme pohjoiseen niin pitkälle kuin tietä riitti. Se päättyi Veidnes’iin seuraavan Laksefjordenin rannalla. Tämä on luojan hylkäämää peräkolkkaa mutta joku täälläkin asuu ympäri vuoden. Merkkinä siitä oli tiekyltti, joka kertoi, mihin aikaan talvituiskussa autoletkaa avustetaan pahimpien kinosten läpi. Mutta merihän on aina auki ja maisemat aivan mahtavat! Myös petolintuja näkyi kohtalaisesti. Seudun pitäisi olla kevätmuuton aikana toukokuussa mielenkiintoista lintualuetta.
Sitten olikin edessä kotimatka. Pari päivää kesti matka kotiin Vantaalle. Kilometrejä kertyi koko matkalla lähelle 4000 km.

6th - 9th June--From Jerisjärvi Muonio we continued direction Norway. We stayed at Alta fjord in a small one-woman and a worker hotel Altafjord Gjestgard (http://www.altafjordgs.no). There was a magnificent view to the fjord and restaurant, with its cod was a very Norwegian. This is a good place to stay.
In the morning we continued for Porsanger fjord. The primary goal was to participate in Gjesværstappan a bird trip. This is a nature reserve north-west corner of the North Cape and the trip takes place from Gjesvaer's village, to which the protected rocky islands is very visible. At Porsangerfjord we were able to see the rare Tibetan geese. They are kept in captivity but the fugitives to live in Norway, a small wild population. They are funny-looking light geese.
Tours take a company called Ola's Birdsafari (http://www.birdsafari.com). Ola is self also the ship's captain. Ola has also available for accommodation. We lived in an ascetic beach cottage. The Norwegians call them “rorbu”. Asked the hostess food we bought a big chunk of halibut. It was tasty fish. Better than salmon.
There were dozens of people going with us. Very high expectations we didn’t have, but the trip was then a magnificent experience. The birds were visible of huge lots, just like mosquitoes in a Lappish swamp. Sea eagles, puffins, guillemots, razorbills, northern gannets, cormorants, etc. To the islands could not go, so the photographing was made from the ship, which was quite large. It had in fore and rear the open space. Sea was quite a rough, but fortunately it didn’t rain.
When we were photographing all the time, so in one and half-hour we generated close to 3,000 pieces each. Balancing in the rocking ship was full work. Also mild seasickness struck. We were after the ship's journey exhausted like gone through a hard working day. Luckily we had booked accommodation for the next night. This event can be recommended to all like maritime environment. This experience is worth more than the money paid!
9th- 13th June--We drove first along the western shore of the fjord to the south Lakselv. Tibet's geese were exactly in the same place as going up.
Traffic is on the Porsangerfjord’s western shore during the summer very busy. A surprising number seem to want to make a trip to North Cape also by bicycle! At narrow road that is sports in is every way.
Our aim was to explore also the eastern shore of the fjord. There were far fewer tourists. The views were in some way shallower but very rugged. Also the road is at times a measly cart path. We stayed overnight on the shore of the fjord in a hut used by fishermen. It was a beautiful place but the hut was in filthy condition.
We continued north as far as the road was enough. It ended at Veidnes by Laksefjorden. This is the real last corner but someone lives here abandoned year round. Indicate that the road signs that said, what time the car caravan will be assisted through when wind brings a lot of snow in winter. But see is always open and the sceneries are just awesome! The birds of prey could be seen in moderate numbers. This should be during the spring migration in May interesting bird area.
Then it was back home in front. A couple of days took a trip home in Vantaa. We spent a total of 4000 kilometers on the road.
