Käväisimme lyhyellä retkellä Varangerin vuonolla tähystelemässä vuonon lintuja. Niitä näimme kohtalaisen paljon. Majapaikaksi löysimme mukavasti vuonon rannalta Vadsøstä pienen mökin, josta koko komeutta sai ihailla 24h. Mökin vuokrasi Øyvind Zahl Arntzen (http://www.arctic-adventures.com/ ) Mökki oli hänen taiteilijaäitinsä aikaisempi ateljee. Rouva hoiteli hienoa puutarhaansa ja kertoili meille elämästä ja puutarhan hoidosta täällä kaukana Jäämeren rannalla. Oikein mielittävä paikka luonnon tarkkailuun.
Pystytin pienen piilokojuni ikkunan alle. Vuorovesi tyhjensi rannan kaksi kertaa vuorokaudessa ja laskuveden aikaan rannassa käyskenteli haahkoja ja kahlaajia. Jopa yksinäinen allihaahka viihtyi pitkiä aikoja kivellä aivan mökin edessä. Vadsön kaupungissa taas rannassa heti Statoilin takana on mukava paikka tähystellä kahlaajia ylhäältä tienpenkalta.
Parina päivänä ajelimme vuonon rantaa seurailevaa Vardön tietä koilliseen. Merikotkia ja kihuja näkyi monessa kohdin tien varrella. Kotkista kiinnostuneille tämä on hienoa seutua.
Paluumatkalla kotisuomeen etsimme sopivaa lounaspaikkaa. Sellaisia ei oikein Norjan puolella ollut, mutta Nuorgamista heti Suomen puolelta löytyi Stalonpesä. Siellä tarjoillaan lappilaisen humppamusiikin tahdissa mitä maittavinta kotiruokaa. Paikassa on ehta kaurismäkinen tunnelma. Alkupaloiksikin sai paksuja viipaleita graavattua oikeaa Tenon lohta. Kannattaa poiketa.

11 - 14 June, 2010. Summer nights in Varanger fjord
We made a short trip to the Varanger fjord to view the birds of the fjord. We saw them moderately many. As lodging we found comfortably on the shore of the fjord in Vadsø a small cottage from which to admire 24h the whole pomp was allowed. The cottage was rented by Øyvind Zahl Arntzen (http://www.arctic-adventures.com/). The cottage is the earlier studio of his artist mother. The old lady handled her fine garden and told to us of gardening and other life here far on the shore of the Arctic Ocean. The cottage is a really nice place to the observation of the nature.
I set up my small hiding place hut under the window. The tide emptied the shore twice per day and time the ebb sauntered eiders and waders in the shore. Even the lonely steller's eider felt happy quite in front of the cottage for long times on the stone. In Vadsø immediately in the town behind Statoil there is also a comfortable place to see waders in the shore from the above road bank.
During a couple of days we drove the road following the shore of the fjord to the north-east, to Vardø. Sea eagles and skuas were seen along the road in many places. This is a fine region to those interested in eagles.
With the way back home to Finland we looked for a suitable lunch place. There were none on Norway's side but in Nuorgam immediately after border we found Stalonpesä. There is served the tastiest home-made food in step with the Lappish music. For starters we got thick slices the slightly salted right Teno salmon. It is worthwhile to stop.
