Lofootit - Røst

Varsinainen kohteemme Lofooteilla oli Røstin saari. Se on n. kymmenen neliökilometrin tasainen plattu melko kaukana valtameressä Lofoottien eteläpuolella. Nettitarinoiden mukaan saarella pitäisi olla runsas linnusto.

Røstin lautta lähti aamulla klo 8.15 Lofoottien eteläkärjestä Moskenesista ja sinne oli matkaa 125 km. Varauduimme kolmen tunnin ajoaikaan ja se arvaus oli oikea. Lähdimme liikkeelle viideltä ja kahdeksalta olimme lautalla. Lofoottien teillä ei hurjastella. Keskinopeus on enintään 60 km / h.

Tuuli oli jo aamulla aika kova ja meistä se voimistui aamun edetessä. Alkumatkan laivan meno oli melko tasaista, mutta avomerelle saavuttaessa keikutus oli melkoista. Hiukan harmaina kasvoilta asetuimme kolmen ja puolen tunnin lauttamatkan jälkeen Røstin Bryggehotelliin.

Iltapäivällä päätimme tuulesta huolimatta tehdä kuvausmatkan pyöräillen saarella. Vastatuuleen meno oli kyllä aika työlästä mutta pitkän lenkin teimme. Kuvasimme rannalla olleita lintuja, joista yleisimpiä olivat pikkukajavat, haahkat ja riskilät. Tuuli jatkui kovana koko päivän ja illalla taivas oli täysin pilvessä. Aikainen herääminen kaatoi meidät myös aikaisin sänkyyn.

Seuraavana päivänä menimme linturisteilylle läheiseen saaristoon. Kesällä retkiä järjestetään joka päivä. Sää oli nyt aivan erinomainen. Oli puolipilvistä ja pientä tuulta. Vene olikin aivan täynnä. Røstin eteläpuolella on useita saaria. Ne ovat melkoisia vuoria valtameressä ja ainakin tähän vuodenaikaan aivan vihreitä runsaasta kasvillisuudesta. Linnusto on komea. Merikotkia on paljon, laskimme yhtä aikaa näkyvissä 14 kappaletta, mutta kotkia pesii alueella enemmänkin. Karimetsoja oli useilla kallioilla. Meressä oli lunneja, riskilöitä ja ruokkeja suurina parvina. Maihin nousimme Skomværin majakkasaarelle. Se on uloin majakka valtamerellä. Retki oli erittäin onnistunut sekä sään ja luonnon että näkemiemme lintujen osalta. Olipa yhdellä luodolla hylkeitäkin. Uteliaasti ja rauhallisesti ne katselivat meidän kuvaustouhuamme.

Linturetkeä seuraavana päivänä satoi sitten koko päivän. Tutkimme edellisen päivän kuvasaalista. Illalla teimme autoretken saarella. Näimme mm. kapustarintoja ja tyllejä.

Lähtöpäivän aamuna ostimme läheisestä kalatehtaasta neljä kuivattua turskaa. Niiden kuivapaino on 2,5 kiloa mutta liotuksen - kylmässä vedessä seitsemän - kahdeksan päivää - pitäisi lisätä niiden painoa viisinkertaiseksi! On siinä syömistä. Kala on matkan aikana kolminkertaisessa muovipussissa. Kuivakalassa on oma miellyttävä hajunsa. Kotona ripustimme kalat terassille roikkumaan. Olimme kuulemma saaren ainoat turistit, jotka olivat halunneet ostaa kuivakalaa mukaan. Ymmärsimmeköhän oikein?

Saimme vastauksen myös siihen, mihin kuivakala menee. Täältä suurin osa viedään Italiaan. Saamamme valmistusreseptikin on sieltä kotoisin. Kalat olivat tehtaassa kuormalavoilla vähän niin kuin halot ristikkäin ja halkojen tapaan tehtaan omistaja niitä käsittelikin. Kuivakalaa hänellä oli tonnikaupalla. Muutaman kuukauden kuivatus hyvin ilmastoidussa varastossa kuuluu asiaan ja on osa kuivatusvaihetta. Kilohinta meille oli 120 NOK. Käsityksemme mukaan se oli edullista verrattuna siihen, mitä kuivakala kaupassa maksaa. Myöhemmin kotimatkalla osuimme markkinoille, jossa kalaa myytiin 300 NOK:in kilohintaan.

Laivamatkalla Bodøhön yritimme tähyillä Länsivuonolta valaita. Kapteeni kertoi näkevänsä niitä viikoittain. Yhtään emme nähneet. Hintaa lauttamatkoille kertyi 508 NOKia Moskenesista Røstille ja 759 NOKia Bodøhön. Hinta koostui alle kuusimetrisestä ajoneuvosta ja kahdesta matkustajasta. Lofoten - Røst

Our actual target in Lofoten was the island of Røst . It is the ten square kilometers island rather far in the ocean on south side of Lofoten. According to internet in the island should be lot of birdlife.

Ferry to Røst departed in the morning at 8.15 am from Lofoten south peak village called Moskenes and there was distance of 125 km. We looked ahead to the run time of the three hours and that guess was right. We started moving at five and at eight we were on ferry harbor. In Lofoten an average velocity is at the most 60 km / h.

The wind was already in the morning quite hard and it strengthened still. The beginning of journey was rather even but when achieving to the open sea hovering was considerable. A bit grey from faces we arrived after three and half hour ferry journey to Røst Bryggehotel.

Despite the wind we decided in the evening to cycling on the island and long walk we did. By shore we described birds, from which more common were Atlantic kittiwakes, eider ducks and black guillemots. The wind continued as the hard all day long and in the evening sky was completely cloudy. Awakening early poured us also early to the bed.

The following day we went to bird cruise to nearby archipelago. In the summer trips are organized every day. The weather was now quite excellent. It was half cloudy and wind was small. The boat was indeed quite full of. On south side of Røst there are several islands. They are considerable mountains in ocean and at the least at this time of the year quite green of vegetation. The bird fauna is handsome. White tailed eagles are a lot, we calculated at the same time in sight 14 items, but in the area are nesting eagles more. There were shags by many rocks. In the sea were Atlantic kittiwakes, black guillemots and auks in large swarms. We landed to Skomvær beacon island. It is farthest beacon on ocean. The trip was extremely successful. We saw even seals on the one small rocky island. Curiously and peacefully they watched our photographing.

On the bird trip following day it rained then all day long. We looked our pictures of the previous day. In the evening we did a car trip on the island. We saw e.g. European golden plovers and ring plovers.

In the morning of the departure we bought four dried cod from close fish factory. Their dry weight is 2.5 kilo but in the cold water of the maceration seven - eight days should add their weight to be quintuple! The fish is during journey in the triple plastic bag. Dry fish has his it's own pleasing smell. We were said to be only tourists of the island, who were wanted to buy the dry fish. We maybe didn't understand it correct?

On the voyage to Bodø we tried to watch whales from west of fiord. The captain told his seen those weekly. Any we didn't see.

The price to ferry journey accumulated 508 Nok from Moskenes to Røst and 759 Nok to Bodøhö. The price comprised from under six metric vehicle and two passenger. Reservations must be done from Hurtigruten beforehand http://www.hurtigruten.com.
