27. - 28. 6.2007 LATVIA: Liepaja - Papen luonnonpuisto

Ajoimme etelää ja lounastimme Liepajassa. Tutustumme mm. torielämään.

Kun sade taas alkoi suuntasimme aivan Latvian lounaiskolkassa olevaan Papen kansallispuistoon. Se on hyvää lintualuetta. Siltä löytyi meren läheltä varsin askeettinen hotelli Papes Cakstes, www.liepaja.lv, hakusana Pape, josta kaikki muut ihmiset olivat myrskyn takia kaikonneet. Hotelli on varsinkin lintumiesten suosiossa mutta nyt olimme ainoat asukkaat. Isäntänä toimi puhelias liettualainen. Hän kehuskeli kaikenlaista ja kertoi mm. hotellissa olevan mainion venäläisen saunan. Päätimme kokeilla sitä ja hyvät löylyt siellä sai ja oli kunnollinen vihtakin. Venäläiseksi kutsutaan täällä saunaa, joka lämmitetään puilla. Kolme tuntia sitä meidän varten lämmitettiin.

Lintujen katselusta ei myrskyn johdosta tullut yhtään mitään. Aamulla jatkoimme sitten Liettuaan.

LATVIA: Liepaja and Pape´s Natural Park

On the way to south and we had lunch Liepaja. We acquainted e.g. to the live in market place.

When rain again started we mouthed to most southwestern corner of Latvia where situated Pape's national park. It is supposed to be a good birding area. From there we found at sea shore a quite ascetic hotel. (Papes Cakstes ; http://www.liepaja.lv, headword Pape)

All people were left because storm. The hotel is liked especially by birders but now we were only residents. As host was a much and lively talking Lithuanian. He boasted all sorts of and told e.g. there is in the hotel excellent Russian sauna. We decided to try it and were satisfied. In sauna was even the birch whisk. For Russian is here called a sauna, which is warmed with trees. Three hours the host warmed it for us.

Viewing of the birds was impossible because storm. In the morning we continued then to Lithuania.
